Auckland University of Technology

Established in 1895 The Auckland University of Technology is the newest university in New Zealand. It was formed in 2000 when the university was granted status.


Students: 22,000 students (2006). Approximately 2,980 international students

Overview

The Auckland University of Technology promotes itself as an believer of innovative method to teaching, learning and research. Since 2000, new engineering, design, library, and business buildings have been constructed, with it?s heavily advancement AUT is half way through its $245 million dollar infrastructure.

AUT has two campuses - Wellesley (Auckland CBD) and Akoranga (Nort Shore), with plans also in place for a third campus in Manukau City. Both campuses have student accommodation next door for a relatively small number of students.

AUT has several internationally prominent IT research centres situated at this tech park.

These include:

  • Knowledge Engineering and Discovery Research Institute (KEDRI),
  • Institute of Information Technology Research (IITR)
  • Software Engineering Research Lab (SERL)
  • The Centre for Research on Information Systems Management (CRISM).

Social Groups

Carl Ewen and Vinay Gobindlal are the ogranisers of  the Keepin' It Real Club. They organises pub crawls, parties etc. The Army Of Tomorrow is an active crowd made up primarily of student teachers, who socialise and organise parties and sporting events.

Research partnerships and exchanges have also been established with some of the worlds leading universities.
